Advantages
Reduced feed waste, controlled feed intake, consistent nutrient content, reduced dust, easy handling, reduced storage, ease of transportation.
Disadvantages
Alfalfa cubes require a proper storage area, free from moisture to prevent spoilage. The initial cost of cubes is typically higher than that of baled hay, but the savings show when taking into consideration all of the advantages listed above.
feeding horses
Forage is the basis for feeding programs for all classes of horses. Forage contains many nutrients and fiber that is essential for the maintenance of the horse's gastrointestinal health. A general rule for daily feeding is 1lb-2lbs of feed for every 100lbs of body mass. Example: a 1000lb horse would require about 10lbs-20lbs/day (an ice cream pail full).
